Basic needs

Sometimes the most basic needs of food, shelter and clothing can be the hardest to provide for.

There may be many circumstances in which a family can find themselves struggling without any support network. Even a family where both parents are working can often find themselves in a difficult position. The desperation of wanting just to be able to make ends meet, the sick feeling in the pit of a parent’s stomach when a bill arrives or children grow out of shoes and clothes. The worst case scenario of poverty, hunger and homelessness is a frightening reality for some.

Sometimes the basic needs are met, but only just, but it’s the little extras that families and children may miss out on – participating in weekend sports, seeing the occasional movie, having a birthday party.

To assist parents in finding their way out of a dire situation, a number of organisations who provide welfare and charitable support as well as assisting with clothing and other goods can be found here.

Over time, we will be adding articles, lists and other resources here from various emergency services to enable people to be as prepared as possible for any emergency situation. Please subscribe to our e-News below to stay up to date.
